Programme:
Part classical Jazz repainted in bright new colours and part popular dance music, the fifth album from this bubbly British singer and pianist in 2011 was a hymn to eclectic tastes. His repertoire deliberately teems with Gershwin standards influenced by a more contemporary trip-hop with a personal sense of harmony, all moving at the speed of a tsunami. After the global triumph of Catching Tales in 2005, and in particular with the famous “Get your way”, Cullum granted himself a few years break. In his sixth album, Momentum, Jamie Cullum is keen to preserve his special quality, half-rock star, half-crooner, together with his appealing English accent, and he comes back with signature titles such as “The Same Things”. The impassioned performer arrives in Vienne for the second time with his eternal teenager features and a bunch of musicians who are markedly more rock: “This is the first time that I’m older than my backing group!” 13 years after his staggering eruption into the world of jazz singing, pretty boy Jamie makes a bold return.
